I believe Daniel served in both:
-- Bourland's Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Border Regiment)

--22nd Regiment, Texas Cavalry (1st Indian-Texas Regiment)

I'm sure about Bourland's Regiment. There is "Daniel W. Byars" who shows up on the rolls of the 22nd Regiment. In both regiments, according to the info on Nat'l Park Service Civil War Soldier and Sailors System, he is listed as "Junior Second Lieutenant."

My line is through Daniel's son, William Stewart Byars. William's daughter, Willie Mae Byars (Rogan), was my grandmother. My mom is Patricia Ann Rogan (Mayfield), Mae's only child.

I don't know Willam Smoots middle name. I note that at, which has a lot of information about the Byars line, it lists him as "William Smoot" and says he died about 1863 in Ft. Smith AR. That same site also lists Amanda's info as:

Born: 14 JAN 1840 at: , Polk?, Ar, USA
Died: 15 MAR 1908 at: South Sulphur, Hunt, Tx, USA
Father:William STEWART
Mother:Nancy STEWART, MRS.

I'd be interested in any futher information you have about Amanda and her line.
