Rev. Smoot's ancestors are well documented in the the history of Prince George's and Charles County, Maryland. The family is listed in the book Charles County Gentry and there is also a book called The Smoots of Virginia and Maryland.

Rev. Smoot's father was also a Theophilus who married Amelia Cecilia Harrison. He was a large land and slave owner. At one time his real estate was worth $13,000 and he had ten slaves. Rev. Smoot's grandfather was George Smoot who married Mary Dent. You can easily trace back to the first immigrant Smootor as they were called Smute.

I can send you copies of the pages from the Smoots of Virginia book if you would like. You can contact me directly at redden@cox.net if you'd like.
