I'm a direct descendant of Mary Ann Smoot as well. Her daughter Georgia was my great grandmother. She was a wonderful person and lived to be 100. As for your inquiry about our connection to Amanda Stewart Smoot, I've found that it is a match, both in documentation and through what Georgia transcribed to my mother. Through that connection to Amanda, it is a pretty clear line of Smoots all the way back to the 1600s and the founding of St. Mary's City, MD. This is incredibly ironic for me, because it was one of the places where my father was stationed and I grew up. I knew multiple Smoots while living there, and never realized that we were distantly related. Anyway, let me know if you would like to share any info regarding the Smoot line.
