Brandy,
Oh. How I wish I had more information. All I know is that My Great Grandfather Frederick was killed 4 years after my Grandfather Leo Edward Smous was born. He was kicked in the head and killed instantly by a donkey or somthing. For some reason my Grandfather would not speak of his family history. If any other family members were asked while my Grandfather was alive it was always said if Leo wants you to know he will tell you. Well my Grandfather lived the longest and his family history went to rest with him.
There is a family cemetary plot in Indiana. Mount Pleasent cemetary. Maybe you have heard of it. Bessie, Adam J., Fred, Frederick and more are burried there. Most of their lives they resided in South Bend, Indiana. I tried to receive records but there was a tremendous fire and the records from that era were destroyed.
I am of Christion descent, but it has been said my Grandfather Leo would have nothing to do with the Church. He wouldn't walk into one.
I have also learned that Smous is in the Yiddish dictionary. The meaning being peddler. I have spoken with a Jewish family looking for a Smous of Russian descent in the 1800's. Do you know of the Jewish religion in the history?
Thankyou so much for replying to my message. I will Probably need to make a trip to St. Josephs Library in Indiana. That is going to be a while.
P.S. What is the name of the Smous Family History Book?
Thankyou again,
Erin
