Since I posted my earlier query, I found a more complete (not necessarily correct) copy of our family history that has been floating around. My problem is still pretty much the same. Laurence Van Horn is said to have been married to Ann Crosland Snead on 25 March 1802. One daughter, Temperance Buford Horn, married James Alexander Liles, another, Ann Crosland Horn, married William Lysander Jackson Reid, one son, Daniel Alexander Horn married Isabella Jane Hunter McLeod, and there are other offspring and their marriages listed.
The problem -- Who were Ann Crosland Snead's parents and what was her/their connection to the well-documented Crosland family. She is said to have been born in Sneedsboro, NC on 11 April 1783 and to be the daughter of Israel Sneed/granddaughter of Samuel Sneed. The document is almost certainly incorrect in stating that her mother's maiden name was Temperance Buford --Temperance Buford, while not well-documented overall, seems to have been married to Samuel Sneed and thus her grandmother. But there's a problem with Ann Crosland Snead being the daughter of Israel Sneed if it's this line--there is apparently an Israel Sneed will that leaves a bequest to his daughter Ann Diggs (wife of Marshall Diggs).
It's the persistence of Crosland connections -- family naming patterns and social relationships--in later generations that makes me think there must still be something here. I welcome suggestions.
