Claire Kathleen Snider, the daughter of Adrian and Anna Fitzgerald Snider, was born on August 23, 1910 near Revillo, South Dakota. She attended Revillo Elementary School. In 1924 she moved with her family to Iona, Minnesota and six months later they moved to Fulda, MN. After graduating from the Fulda High School in 1928, Claire attended Mankato State College where she took a teacher training course. She worked as a teacher in the Murray and Nobles Counties areas while continuing to take college courses to obtain her teaching certificate. Claire moved to Minneapolis in 1943 and taught in Bloomington, MN. Claire continued her own education and obtained her Bachelors degree in 1951 and her Masters degree in 1956 from the University of Minnesota and then she was able to get her license as an elementary school principal. She served as principal at Valley View, Humboldt Heights, River Ridge and Nine Mile Elementary Schools in Bloomington until her retirement in 1974. Claire then returned to Fulda to live with her sister, Angela. Claire entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda in September of 2000 and passed away there on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the age of 97. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Claire was a past member of the Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association, PTA, Association for Evaluation of Elementary Schools, Delta Kappa Gamma professional sorority and the National Department of Elementary School Principals. She also belonged to the Fulda Heritage Society and Fulda Reading Club. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with her friends and family.
Survivors include her sister, Adrene Snider of Fulda, MN; one nephew, Stephen (Eileen) Snider of Texas; three cousins, Stan and Don Gilbertson and Mary Rood; other close relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Angela Snider and brother, William Snider.
Funeral Services were held at St. Gabriel’s Church, Fulda, MN at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 with the Fr. Bob Horihan officiating. The organist was Dana Hogan. The soloist was Sheila Crowley. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Fulda, MN. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda assisted the family with arrangements.
