Simon SNYDER and Mary LANE in Colonial New York

Hi everyone. Here's hoping someone can help me. I just stumbled upon the info that my 4th great grandmother Mary S SNYDER LAUGHLIN was the daughter of Simon SNYDER and Mary LANE. According to my information, Mary S was born 17 April 1760 in Colonial America. No state or town or county was given as a birth place. I was also told that SNYDER may in fact be an English corruption of the German SCHNEIDER. Any info regarding residence, birth, death, marriage or possible surname corruptions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
