I am looking for info on my great-grandmother Elizabeth Snyder or Schneider.According to the 1901 canadian census she was born on july 25,1845.Although the 1901 census states she was born in canada the 1881 canadian census lists her birthplace as the states. She was originally from Pennsylvania, but I'm not sure which area. We do know she was born Amish or Mennonite but married Thomas Draper who gives his religion in both canadian census reports as Wesleyan Methodist. It is also said that our Drapers were at one time Pennsylvania dutch(deutch).Thomas Draper(my great-grandfather) was born nov.8,1839 according to the 1901 census. We do know they had a daughter Mary Ann born in 1863 and daughter Rhoda Elizabeth born in 1865,both born in Wisconsin. This info shows up in the Ontario,Canada Wesleyan Baptismal Registry. Both girls were baptised in Oneida,Ontario,Canada in 1866.The family settled in Haldimand county,Ontario in the town of Caledonia where they had 6 more daughters,Amey Jane,Salome,Eliza,Isabella, Glen, and Bertha, and one son Thomas William born 1878 who is my grandfather.I have heard the Lancaster area mentioned as a possible site they are from, but I don't know if it refers to the Drapers or the Snyders.I am looking for a wedding date for Thomas and Elizabeth (my great-grandparents) but I don't know where they married.I am hitting a brick wall searching for their parents or siblings since I don't know exactly where they were from.Since the two oldest girls were born in Wisconsin and then they settled in Ontario,I'm wondering if they fled Pennsylvania due to fighting from the civil war.Possibly thomas was a Quaker who used the Wesleyan Baptismal registry to establish themselves as Canadian since he uses Rhoda's baptismal date as her birthdate in the 1881 census and they never bothered to have any of the later children baptised Wesleyan as far as I can tell.Anyone with info on this branch of the family please kindly respond and help me learn where Elizabeth was from and who her parents were.We know Elizabeth lived at least until 1920 and maybe later since my dad remembers seeing his grandmother when he was a child and he was born in 1917.Thank you for taking the time to read this.I sure hope someone out there can help me.
