The Valley Chronicle (St. Charles, Ill.) 24 June 1881:
Business is prospering at the village of Burlington. Among fresh arrivals of goods we notice a large invoice of barbed wire for Mann & Smith, who dispose of considerable quantities. George M. Snyder, the blacksmith, is very busy putting harvesting machinery in order, at which work he is an excellent hand. The cheese factory is in good shape for business, and the milk is being set in the new pool, which increases the amount of cream produced. O.S. Dunn, a former school teacher, is now engaged in the factory, making butter, and he seems to like the business, perhaps because the pay is good - and the buttermilk is free.
