I just came across the following information in a petition to a surrogate court in Troy, NY, dated March 29, 1832: "The Petition of Esther (Hester/Hetty) Snyder respectfuully represents that she is the daughter of Simon Vandercook late of Pittstown deceased and a legatee named in his last will and testament and is the wife of Jacob Snyder. . . that she has seven children by her said marriage to Jacob Snyder, i.e., Christopher, Catherine, Simon, Lavinia, Caroline, Sally Ann, and Jacob, all now living and all of them except Christopher and Catherine are under the age of twenty one years, and the youngest is of the age of seven years."
The couple's son Simon moved to the Midwest, ultimately settling in Lancaster County, Nebraska. His biographic sketch reports that his grandfather was Christopher Snyder, who came from Germany and settled in Rensselaer County, NY. Does anyone have information on any of these Snyders?
