Joost Sooy 1685 surname change

Doing genealogy on the Sooys for over 30 years, I have come to the conclusion that the Sooy surname went through a spelling change. Using my limited Dutch, I started re-translating the name back into Dutch. My Dutch friend was going back to visit his sister in Holland, and I gave him the list. I asked if he would look up these creative surnames to find out if any of them existed. He came back with the surname "Sooijs". It's pronounced "Sewies" or "Sooys". I looked the name up in the Dutch phone directory on the internet. I found five Sooijs. Three live in Rotterdam. One lives in Nijmegen, and one lives in Friesland or North Holland. I have a gut feeling that "Sooijs" is Joost Sooy's original surname. I have written to all five Sooijs twice, but have not received an answer. The letters were translated into Dutch. I'm writing a third letter soon. Let you know if I hear from them. I am a descendant of Joost Sooy, Jr. My mother is a Sooy.
