Since the present St. Mark's church in the Bowery was not completed until 1799, the marriage of Joost Sooy and Sarah Van Tienhoven must have taken place in the Chapel on the Bowery of Peter Stuyvesant-built in 1660 (the site of the present St. Mark's Episcopal Church).

Incidentally, Peter Stuyvesant was buried in a vault under the chapel in 1678.
