Caren,
I have heard recently that Joost Sooy was from Holland (Joost is a Dutch name) but that his family or ancestors came to Holland from France as Hugenots.

This is extremely likely because during this time period around mid to late 1500's France was in religious civil war and many (thousands) of Hugenots and Walloons left France and went to Holland.

The Vigne family, spelled Vinje in Holland were from France as well, they were Walloon and left because of religious persecution.
