Hi Libby,Just checked into the marriage of Thomas Cote. The woman he married was Marianne(probably Marie Anne).I think the reference to Isaie Cote and Anna Garenton were not as a married couple but as the separate parents of the bridal couple giving their consent, which was the custom.
Because of this, Marie Anne's last name was probably Garenton. As you said, the page is torn. There was a family named Yarrington/Garenton/Farrinton living at St Francois Xavier at the same time as Theophile and Philomene.
11 June 1865, there was a daughter Anne Aveline Cote born to Thomas Cote and Marie "Farrinton".Theophile was the godfather.Another daughter was born to this couple named Ana Adelaide.Again, Theoph was the godfather. The spelling of her name varies as a few years earlier, there was a daughter Marie Allas Cote born to Thomas Cote and Marie "Gallandin."
I have yet to find a marriage record for my great-grandparents.They could have mattied inVan Buren and that is the locale of my next search.Thx so much for your interest.Charlene
