Trying to reach Donald W. South, re: Maria Mahlenfell

Dear Don,

I was glad to read that you are back into genealogy!
This particular correspondence regards Maria Mahlenfell, wife of Joseph, son of Elijah. I believe that you were "right on" when you questioned that "Mahlenfell" is Maria's maiden name. I believe it to be a misprint in "The Past and Present of Rock Island County, IL." Other than that publication, I have found no references whatsoever to the name "Mahlenfell" .. however .. !!, I have found several publications (and military record but no pension) of a young Ensign Mahlon Fell from Uniontown, PA. (Maria's birthplace) who died in the War of 1812. (It is documented in "The Past and Present of R.I. County" that Maria's father died in the War of 1812.) I cannot help but believe that Maria's maiden name is "Fell" but have found no sources tying Maria to Mahlon and his wife Sarah. I am pretty much at a dead end and have given up my research this past 6 months, but I thought that you would be interested in hearing about this .. and, of course, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Regards,
Deanne South Henderson
