I believe Christine South Gee was in her 80's when she wrote her book on the South family. Born Christine Norad South Jun 08, 1884 Laurens Co, SC, died Abt. May 1978 Macon, GA. Married Nathaniel Gist Gee June 23, 1923. He was born Apr 20, 1879 Laurens Co, SC.
Christine South Gee graduated Winthrop College A.B., Columbia University B.S. and M.A. Taught at Winthrop College, Women’s College, University of North Carolina and George Peabody College. Very active for many years in state-wide organizations and projects, viz. State Leader of Home Demonstration Work, State Nutrition Commission, Adult Education Commission, President State Council for the Common Good, Member State Defense Council during World War II. Winthrop College conferred upon her the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award for service to mankind and the first honorary degree that the college ever awarded, Doctor of Humanities. The Winthrop College Alumae Associate gave her it’s first Distinguished Service Award. She is included in Who’s Who of American Women. Address: 401 W. Durst Avenue, Greenwood, S.C.
