Thanks for the information, really do appreciate it. However, I am not so sure that John W. South was born in Canada as census records do not confirm that.
William Henry Lemon and his family were living in Atchison Co., MO in 1880 according to the census and Mary Lavina was 19 and single.
In 1900, John's two children, George age 15 and Rena age 13 were living with their grandparents, William & Sarah Lemon in Atchison Co., MO. William stated that the children were born in Nebraska, their father was born in Missouri and their mother was born in Canada.
Rena is married by 1910 to Leonard Stoner and living in Atchison Co., Missouri. Census shows father born in Kansas and mother born in Missouri. In 1930, she stated her father was born in Kansas and her mother was born in Canada.
In 1910, George is married and living in Atchison Co, Missouri. He states both his parents were born in Missouri.
In 1920, he is living in Grady Co., OK and only states both of his parents were born in the US.
I suspect that John W. South was either from Missouri or Kansas. I have not pulled census records to confirm or deny this assumption. No record has been found for his marriage to Mary Lavina or where he died and is buried.
Are you related to the family and if so how? Any ideas or additional help would be appreciated. Thanks. Janice
