Hello Carolyn,

Your Mary Alice South may be a neice of my great-grandmother, Mary South Valentine, who was born near Uniontown, PA on 24 January 1840 and died in Austin, MN on 20 January 1926. She moved to the Rock Island, Ill. area with her parents, Joseph & Maria Fell South in 1854 and became the 2nd wife of Cyrus King Valentine on 12 September 1858. She lived in the Rock Island area until 1916 when a bachelor son died, at which time she moved to Austin, MN to live with a daughter and her family. She had siblings whom I will try to look up for you while home this weekend, that being where my large South file is.

In the meantime, what more can you tell us about Mary Alice and what is your interest in her?

Don Valentine
