Understand the wedding date for Gabriel and Catherine, however it was relatively common for children to be born out of wedlock during that period or to an unnamed spouse.
Charlotte Wogan b. abt 1847 in Ohio. Dau of David Wogan and Hannah Dennis. David & Hannah also had a son name Samuel Wogan b. abt 1852. John and Charlotee had 3 children: (born in Athens Co, Ohio)
David W South b. 13 Feb 1874
Silas A South b. abt 1878
Jacob South b. abt 1887

I'm not sure I have a high level of confidence in many of the census records. Before 1850 only the name of the head of house was noted. Have encountered many errors in age and birthplace as recorded by the census. I believe there may have been connections between the South's of Bedford County and the South's of Washington Co, MD. It's a short drive from Bedford to Cumberland or Hagerstown, MD with no mountains to cross.
Gabriel had a son named William that married Jane Dennis and had 8 children. This family show up later in Athens Co, Ohio.
Wish I could get a better handle on Gabriel South. One note I have for Gabriel is that he could be the son of Benjamin South 1747 Prince Georges Co.
Always glad to get more info on the South family. Let me know what you think.
