Thanks for the info for both posts. Reubin makes sense based on the info I had found. It also appears that John was the son of Philip South and Kezire, who were in Blount County in 1830 census. Apparently they were born in North Carolina, but I haven't been able to trace that far yet. I don't know when they actually came to Blount County and the route they had taken to get there. I have been in contact with a couple of South's in Texas that I believe were also descended from Philip and probably a brother to John, but I'll have to dig deeper on that.
