I don't know. I think there is a connection. John's son Martin is my direct line. In looking for info on Martin during the 1870 - 1900 time frame I found a marriage record in Lawernce county for a marriage between a Martin South and a Mollie Lee ( M 1-8-1886). He was in Blount County Alabama in prior 1870 & after 1900, but I find no record of him in Blount co during that period.
I don't know for sure this is my Martin, but I think it is. He's the only martin in this time frame I've ran across. I know Austin South had dealings in the Cullman area as well as other areas of the state. I dont know if this helped but e-mail me at Dcrr71@cs.com if I can be of any help.
