Richard, you are right to puzzle over the William South/1820 connection - it does not fit - good authority (archives SA). Your greatgrandfather (Oliver)was the brother of my husband's greatgrandfather (Benjamin Herbert South). Made contact with one of your direct relatives recently - Neville South of Benoni whose grandfather (Benjamin Francis) was brother to your grandfather. Am sending Neville all info we have when it is assembled - will send to you too.
