The John South you inquire about was married to Margaret Weldon Drake (related to Sir Francis Drake). John and Margaret had the following children: Samuel m. Patsy Glover (my ancestors); William; Weldon: Benjamin; John South Jr.; Polly; Elizabeth; and Sarah.
My mother, 2 aunts, and myself are members of the DAR on the Samuel South line. Although a young boy, he fought alongside his father in the Revolutionary War and fought also in the War of 1812. His son, Jeremiah Weldon South had the county of Breathitt formed from Clay, Estill, and Perry in 1839 and is known as "The Father of Breathitt County."
