I think I have some information that could be used by Elijah South researchers. In the 1850 Tuscaloosa, Ala. census on p. 219, Elijah and Rhoda are listed. On that same page is the son of John Ransom South, James Ransom and his family, and also John's widow and daughter, Temilla C. According to John M.South's information on this message board, John R. South, had a son named Elijah. I think that this, then is Elijah South's father and not Joseph South and Mary Box. Why would an Elijah that is not his son, live side by side with John's widow, other son and daughter? By the way, there is another Elijah in 1850 on p. 241. Maybe he is Joseph's son.
