My great great grandfather James Patterson Cockerham along with neighbor John Quincy Adams Bryant grew up in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Both joined the 10th Tennessee US Cavalry in December 1863 and served under first Robert Milroy and then Edward Hatch until war's end. They returned home and rejoined their large families befor getting on with life. gg Grandpa lived until 1922 and is buried in northeastern Iowa where he took the family late in life in search of more farm land.
