I am researching James (Kirk) Smith born 1840 Va. Father born in Va, mother born in Maryland. We believe he was in the 5th Regiment of West Virginia Volunteer Infantry out of Ceredo. Company B. He was supposed to have been taken prisoner, escaped and made it back to WV.
I would like to know something about this unit, Roster, or anything pertaining to this unit.
