I've posted a note looking for biographical information about my grandfather, Stanley Sowinski, who also lived in Brooklyn and, judging from the approximate age you state for Joseph Sowinski's wife Vera, would be about the same age as Joseph. Until I saw your note I wasn't aware that there was another Sowinski family in Brooklyn at the same time as my grandfather's. In fact I probably would have sworn that there wasn't. (more)
My family's story is that Stanley's father (I don't know his name) told Stanley to leave Poland to avoid being drafted into the Russian Army around the time of World War I. His younger brothers, Ziggy and Roman, were entrusted to his care to be taken out of Poland also. Stanley and his family stayed in Brooklyn. Ziggy and Roman had families and lived on Long Island (Babylon, I believe) until their deaths. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Our families may be connected...or perhaps there were two separate Sowinski families in Brooklyn at the same time. Here's a throwaway question off the top of my head. There's a detective with the NYPD named Anne Sowinski who looks very much like my mother's family...but no one in my family knows who she is. Is she one of your relatives?
