Shara,
Thank you for your response.
I can tell you this about John Baptist SPAETH. He was a brother to my grandfather, John Louis SPAETH. Their parents were John Louis SPAETH and Genevieve SPITZ. Both sons were born in Vieux Thann, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, FRANCE.
J.L, jr.---born in 1847
J.B.--born in 1853
There were also some other children.
In 1871, J.L., jr married Maria Anna LINDER and they removed to Winterthur, canton Zurich, SWITZERLAND for a short time. Maria Anna's mother Cecile BAUER and her brother, Jean LINDER, were also there
At about the same time, J.B. also moved to Switzerland and as I mentioned in an earlier post he is on the population schedule for 1872 in Winterthur, Switzerland. He may have married there as well. I have no record of that event. J.B. remained in Switzerland much longer than his brother. Most of his children, including your Carl were born there.

My grandfather, J.L.,jr.--came to US with wife and family and settled in Pittsburgh PA in 1889. For the record, Other important events occured, but we won't detail those here re. grandfather. Your J.B. also came to US at some point and settled for a time in Pittsburgh, PA as well before removing to KANSAS. I believe he first settled in Dickenson KS before moving to Colby, Thomas co., KS.

All this info reconstructed through personal research and tidbits of information left in a personal diary of my father's. If you have more particulars about your CARL and other family members I would appreciate knowing so I can add that to my SPAETH database. Thanks again for your response and keep in touch. I have some other correspondents interested in this family who are descendants of other of JB's children. Also, I can go back a few more generations in the SPAETH and SPITZ lines.
