My grandfather was Robert Spain - he was born in NC around 1890 and was the youngest of 11 brothers. He moved to Philadelphia. One brother was named Clancy. He married Ruth Gery Diehl. Some relatives are still in Gum Tree Swamps, NC. My mother has more extensive information. I believe there was a William in this family - possibly Robert's grandfather.
