Only ONE listed in Record of Penna Volunteers in SP AM war:

Benedict, Dudley F. Priv. Co. D Res. Philadelphia PA. Enrd June 22, 1898, MI June 22, 1898, Mustered out w/ company Oct 22, 1898.

This regiment never left the US during the war.

I can't imagine Dudley Benedict is a very common name.
