Searching for Sumter SC slaveowner Richard Spann
Richard Spann was born abt. 1760-1770. I strongly believe that he and his off springs where my ancestors the Mack's slaveowners. After the war and the freeing of slaves my ancestors the Mack's and the Spann's remained neighbors. They are living next to each other in the 1870,1880 and 1900's census records for Swimming Pens Sumter South Carolina. In the 1820,1830 and 1840 census records Richard Spann is listed as a farmer who owned a lot of land. He owned as much as 22 slaves from 1820-1840 in Sumter SC. He had several children that he list in his 1842 Will. Robert, Charles, Fredrick, Harry, Henry, Martha, and Sarah. Richard owned the Linebacker Plantation in Sumter SC in 1842 according to his Will. The Linebacker Plantation was sold on October 2,1849.In Richard's will he left several slaves and property to of his son Henry Spann born abt. 1799 in North Carolina and Henry D. Green. Do anyone have info on the Spann family when they were slaveowners. Or any pictures of the Spann family or their slaves? The Mack family will be for ever greatful.
