John D. Spearman 4/14/07
There are a number of branches of the Spearman family. My branch went west (to Kentucky from Virginia) while most went south and then west.James Dawson Spearman and his son James Dawson Spearman Jr. were the dominant figures in the 1800's.The town of Springfield, Nebraska (just south of Omaha) was founded by the latter and Spearman's dominated the town's early history. My grandfather moved from there to North Dakota.Since then I have moved to Virginia and, later, to Texas. There is a book by Rupert Spearman that details the family.I am interested in any history prior to the 1650 period is an attempt to trace the family back to England. There is mention of a John Spearman with the "Second Supply" into the Jamestown colony. He was a laborer and there is no later mention. We have never presumed him to be part of the ancestry as there is no link connecting him the John Spearman who appears in Essex County Virginia in the mid 1600's through land records.
