David, this may just be usless information but I thought it might have some interest to you. I was born in 1938 in Duncan, Stephens County, Oklahoma. I was raised by Grandparents, Mr and Mrs A. F. Meazell. The Speegles had a butcher shop on Main Street in Duncan. The few times we had enough money to buy store bought meats we went to Speegles. What a treat it was! Mrs. Speegle had what was advertized to be the largest collection of dogs in the USA. Not real but made of glass and ect. They were displayed in the shop. She claimed five or six thousand and as a boy of six or seven I had no reason to doubt it. The front of the shop as I remember was a black and white checkerboard tile. Ron Howard was awarded something and I remembered him as grandson of the Speegles. I didn't know him, I just knew he was connected. I have lived in Odessa Texas since 1960 and just returned to the 50 year class renunion in Duncan. It is a beautiful town of about 30,000
and all of Main Street has been restored exactly as I had remembered it in the 40s and 50s.
I surely hope you get this message. It has certainly brought back memories. I remember Mr. Speegle as rather shot and a little on the heavy side. Also bald.
