I think the father of my Joseph Pelts (b. 1832 IN) was the William Spelts (indexed as Spetts) in Greene Co. IN in 1840. I can't find either Joseph or William in 1850; however, the Catharine Spelce family in Floyd Co. IN fits a description from Dunklin Co. MO history where Joseph Pelts died in 1900 - also, his sister, Rachel who married John G. Rapp in Louisville,KY, died in the same county.

They had a half-brother, Sam Johnson, the baby listed with Catharine Spelce in 1850 New Albany, Floyd Co. IN. Sam's obit confirms this info. It appears that the John Speltz (27)in New Albany, Floyd Co. IN 1860 census is that of the Catharine Spelse family). I found this in a accelerated index, but couldn't locate on film. Perhaps someone with access to IN census records could check.

Anyway, I think all of these connect with the Greene Co. IN and Green Co. KY Joseph Spelts/Pelts family.

Do you know who is writing the book on the Spelts family and how I can get in touch? I'm trying to put together all of my info on my g-grandfather, Joseph Pelts, and would love to make the above connection.
