I, James Spickett, of the county of Howard in the State of Missouri, being of
sound mind and disposing memory, do make and publish this my last Will and
Testament as follows
Item 1st I will and desire that my funeral expenses and just debt be first paid
and a suitable monument erected over my grave and also on the grave of my
deceased wife.
Item 2nd I give and bequeath to my friend, Joseph Shipp and his wife Laura
Shipp, the sum of three hundred dollars, that is to say, two hundred dollars to
Joseph Shipp and one hundred dollars to his wife, Laura. This I give them for the
______ kindness they have shown to me during my sickness.
Item 3rd I have two Sisters and a Sister in-law, the widow of my brother, William
Spickett, all of whom live in the city of London, where I last heard from them in
England. One of my sisters was named Catharine and married a man by the name
of Bridges. The other sister was named Elizabeth, but do not recollect whom she
married, their maiden names being Spickett. The widow of my brother, William,
was named Mary. I make this statement for the purpose indicating how I wish to
dispose of my estate after the specific legacies above mentioned. Therefore, I will
and desire that my executor hereinafter named, shall collect my life policy in the
Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company and all my debts due me and sell all my
Real Estate whenever situated or such time as he think best, and after payment of
my debts and specific legacies and the expenses of administration, Shall hold the
balance of my estate in Trust for my said sisters and sister in-law, on condition
that they apply for such estate with proof of their identity within one year after
Letter Testamentary is granted and I then give one third of my said estate to each
of my said Sisters and Sister in-law, it is being my will that each of my said Sisters
and Sister in-law have one third of my estate, but in case either die before the distri-
bution, I will that the share of said deceased, one shall be distributed as hereinafter
Item 4th In the event of my Sisters and Sister in-law do not claim said estate within
one year after Letter Testamentary is granted or in case of the death of either before
distribution, then I will and desire that all my estate be divided or such is lapsed by
or as one of the death of either before distribution shall go to and be divided equally
between the following relatives of my deceased wife to wit, Joseph Shipp, Laura
Shipp, Fanny Embree, Mary Childers, and James Snell.
Item 5th I make, constitute and appoint Joseph Shipp the executor of this my last
Will and Testament. Witness my hand & seal this 17th day of November AD 1881
