Rev. Robert Spike was a member of the National Council of Churchs. I found two Internet refs:
Journal of Southern Religion--Pillar of Fire: American in the King Years, 1963- 65.--reviewed by Richard H. King - http://jsr.as.wvu.edu/king.htm
And during the debate over the Civil Rights Act, over one hundred clergy, mainly Protestant and organized by Rev. Robert Spike of the National Council of Churches, descended on Washington to lobby the Congress to support the pending bill.
and a 1963 photo at: 50th Anniversary of the NCCCUSA - Daily Photo Gallery http://bruno.ncccusa.org/nccat50/history.htm
