Spikes of Middlesex NY

Does anyone know anything about the Spikes of Middlesex, NY?
My gggreat grandfather was Frank Spike, a veterinarian who had at least two patents for veterinary medicines. One was a black leg cure. He was born in Middlesex in 1846 and his wife Martha Ella Rackham was born there 27 Nov. 1848. Her father was Robert Rackham and her mother was Mary? according to our local cemetery records Frank's father is listed as George and his mother as Ellen. I believe that the Peter listed on one of the Census' may have been a brother. There are a lot of Spikes, Rackhams and connections like Brownell and Chaffee listed on wills and cnesus, but no direct information on ties. My greatgrandfather was one of at least four children of Frank and Martha: Robert, Elmer (my gp) Adam "addie", Elting; There may have been a daughter. They came to Oregon sometime before 1899 and Martha and Frank are buried in our cemetery in Echo, OR. I am looking for information on both Frank and Marthas ancestors.I don't know where they came from before NY. My grandmother thought there was some "Penn. Dutch" but this could be Rackham rather than Spike. If you have any information on this line of Spikes, let me know.
