Hi Sally,
Thanks for the info on Elizabeth who married John Buchanan. Can you tell me when she remarried and do you know anything else about John Buchanan?
My Buchanans appear in Prospect, Nova Scotia in 1815 and I've been unable to find their origins. I've found a John Bohannan on the 1752 Halifax census with at least 2 boys. The John Buchanan, who came to Halifax mid 18th Century from Scotland with brothers William and James( James settled in Virginia, William in Lower Lancaster County, Pennsylvania), was a Lieutenant R.N., and obtained a land grant at Swan Creek or Cove, near Minas Basin, in Nova Scotia in 1784. I'm guessing this John is the one who had a marriage bond 18 February 1779 with Elizabeth Spike.
Anything you can add would be appreciated. Thanks
Theresa
