Hi Sally,
My source for John Buchanan and 2 brothers is "The Buchanan Ancestry" circa 1960 by Rev. Maurice G. Buchanan, ggggrandson of brother William who went to Pennsylvania. He states "the middle of the 18th century' as the time of the brother's departure from Scotland. Maurice Buchanan's book includes a copy of a letter from a NS Provincial Archivist Bruce Fergisson (sic) dated 1959. He references the Lieutenant and the 1784 Swan Creek land grant. He also notes a John Buchanan who married Lilias Buchanan, daughter of Thomas Buchanan of Creitchael, Scotland in 1729. A daughter, Jean Buchanan, of Renfrew parish, married James Thomson of Kilmarock. They left Greenock, Scotland (?date) for Salem, Massachusetts and a few years later removed to Nova Scotia.
I'd appreciate more info on the report whenever you get a chance. Have a Merry Christmas!
Theresa
