Theresa, I erred in suggesting that John Buchanan husband of Elizabeth Spike wrote a report. It was instead John Brittain, husband of Elizabeth Spike's sister, Ann Spike, who wrote the report I had in mind. My apologies. I also apologize for taking so long to correct this. Elizabeth Spike married John Buchanan, Feb. 18, 1779. He died some time between then and Sept. 24, 1783, when she married Henry Atkins. There is confusion about the surname of her first husband: which record do you believe? Their marriage record gives his name as Buchanan; but she is described as Elizabeth Barkman, widow, on the marriage record to Henry Atkins. Elizabeth Spike Atkins died aged 96 on Aug. 12, 1852. There is no question that Elizabeth Spike Atkins is a daughter of Charles Spike and his wife, Elizabeth.
