I should have added that Capt. Wm. Drake Spike was alleged to have never married. I will check the 1775 tax assessments, - but Elizabeth Spike, wife of Charles Spike, was not widowed until 1777. She was the administratrix of her husband Charles Spike's estate, and the estate was valued at over 200 pounds, - which was considerable at that time. Charles Spike was a master carpenter. By inference, Wm. Drake Spike was a brother of Charles Spike, as Charles Spike's son Daniel was Wm. Drake Spike's nephew.
