I have lived for almost 25 yrs. in the house built by George Spindler in 1789 called "Spindler's Chance." George was one of four sons of Jacob Spindler, the immigrant, who lived at "Candle." I do not recall specifically w/o getting out my notebook on all the original land patents in the area, but the tract "Alsace" may have been Jacob's original patent which was then incorporated into the larger patent "Candle." He was originally from Alsace, then in Germany, now part of France. The house, "Candle" still stands as well on Evna Rd. in northern Baltimore Co. MD. "Spindler's Chance" on Mt. Carmel Rd. was built on the 100 acres given to George on the event of his marriage to Catherine by his father. Jacob also gave 100 acres to each of his other 3 sons, Nicholas (Jacob's New Design), Jacob, and John (both on parts of "Candle.") He also had 2 daughters, Mary and Catherine. I hope that helps some. I believe that the Spindlers, Jacob and Elizabeth (who is buried in a private graveyard nearby) immigrated through the port of Philadelphia and came south to northern Baltimore Co. where they settled.
