You ask what I know about Polly CAPSHAW.Precious little.
On the death certificate of Margaret Splawn Ponder, it lists her parents as William Splawn and Polly Capshaw.I know Margaret Splawn Ponder was a sister to my greatgrandfather A. G. Splawn.Margaret was the second wife of Ransom Ponder, who was my great, great grandfather (the father of A. G. Splawn's wife, Mary Ponder Splawn)The information on her death certificate was given by her son Otis who was born long after William Splawn's first wife died (off hand, I'd say in the 1860's)
The Capshaws went to near Nashville from present day Polk county, NC before 1815.Other members of the Capshaw family went south and west.
A researcher told me that she found Polly Capshaw as the daughter of James Capshaw (from which this researcher descended).Other Capshaw's have not even identified a Polly, much less one that married William Splawn.
My question is where did Otis get the name Polly Capshaw. If he was confused why did he not say her mother was Jane Waldrop, although he would have known Jane Waldrop, the second wife of William Splawn?
Thanks for any thoughts and help.
