I may have given you this before, but I can't remember so here it is.
I have a record of an obit for a Gilbert Sponsler born 9/18/1833 in Dauphin Co. PA who died 8/27/1904. He lived in Riverton IL (near Springfield) and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Clearlake Township.
From a book on Sangamon County, IL by John Carrol Powers it says Gilbert's wife was Sarah E. Donner who he married 7/27/1855. His living children were William A. George A. Mary F. and ALice J. Gilbert and Sarah resided in Donner settlement 4 miles east of Springfield. It also states he came with his parents to Sangamon county from PA in 1841.
This book also references a Charles A. married to a Sarah E. who had 3 children when the book was published named Alic A., Artilla J. and George. Alice A. married a George Washburn and they all lived in Mt. Pulaski, IL.
Also in the 1850 census of Sangamon Co. there is listed a James and Margaret Sponsler, both age 52 from PA. A Mary M. Sponsler age 19 born in PA who married a Joseph Milstead age 22 born in IL is also listed. They are listed next to one another in the census which would suggest they are neighbors and thus perhaps related.
