Hello -
I am also researching the Van Vliere ("Van Vlerah") family who removed to Defiance County, OH from Tuscarawas County, OH mid 1850s. I believe that you might find more "earlier" information on these two families in Tuscarawas County, perhaps Dohrman or Rush TWPs.
I have seen two marriage records for Jacob SPONSLER. One could possibly be for his father who married the widow of Samuel Van Vlerah (speculation - not proven at this point).
Realize that the census shows various spellings of the name Van Vlerah...

Later, in Defiance County, Ohio:

Elizabeth SPONSLER, age 44, b. NJ
Absolum D. SPONSLER, age 19, b. OH

**living next door is Sarah Van Vlerah (widow of Samuel?)
