Gerhard Spoo and Elizabeth Latz wed April 5, 1904 at Estherville, Emmet Co., IA
As I was looking through the information at the courthouse I came across this discovery, Gerhard Spoo whose first wife was Mary Ferger/ Farger married Elizabeth M. Latx from Freeport, IL.
Gerhard was listed as aged 45 and Elizabeth age 35. He was from Emmet Co. and she from Freeport, IL. They were married by H.H. Davidson, Justice of the Peace.
Their names also appear on a US Federal Census together in IL, can't remember the date off the top of my head, but household members include: Gerhard, Lizzie, Gertrude, Gracie and Carrie. It states that Lizzie was born in IL and although Lizzie is listed as mother, the children's mother's birthplace is listed as Wisconsin which is where Mary Ferger/ Farger was born and together they had children named Gertrude, Grace and Caroline. The birthdates also match. So this Elizabeth is actually their step-mom. Gerhard died in IL, but is buried in St. Jacob's Cemetery in Greattinger, Palo Alto Co., IA.
I do not have the official marriage license, application etc., but rather took notes from the original.
I also found a newspaper article concerning the marriage. It appearedion the April 13, 1904 edition of the Northern Vindicator and Republican which was published in Estherville, Emmet Co., IA.
The title staes In the Love Market. The following marriage licenses have been issued during the past week: Morgan P. Flaherty of Boone county and Lizzie V. Hayden of Emmet County. Herman Schmidt of Martin county and Julia McKanna of Emmet county. Gerhard Spoo of Emmet county and Elizabeth M. Latz of Freeport, IL. The rest of them are unreadable as either the paper was damaged or the microfilm or when the paper was converted to microfilm.
Hope this helps.
