1850 PAcen index Spotts listed as Shotts
Hi, I just wanted to let anyone interested to know that in the 1850 census for Central PA, some of the Spotts names were misspelled as Shotts. While searching for David and Henry Spotts, we couldn't find them. It was as if they completely disappeared from Central PA. Then while looking at the 1850 handwritten census, it dawned on us that the handwritten "p" is Spotts could easily be misinterpreted for an "H." So we went back to the index and low and behold, the DAvid Spotts we were looking for in Centre county was indexed as Shotts. When we looked at the
handwritten page for the misspelled entry, sure enough, the name was Spotts and someone just mistook the fancy p for an H. Hope thishelps anyone else looking for a missing link!
