I have quite a bit on Chapman as he is my husband's 2G grandfather.Louisa was his third wife, though I have her recorded as Louisa M. Daugherty, born in Virginia about 1825, married Chapman on Nov. 3, 1858 in Pike Co. KentuckyThey had one son, Charles born about 1860 in Virginia.I have a note reminding me to check to see if this is the Charles F. Spotts that married Mamie Salter in Northumberland Co. PA in 1891, but I haven't checked yet.
If Louisa was a McGuire, that would explain the presence of William McGuire, age 75, in their household in the 1860 census, and if she had earlier married John Hurt, that would also explain the presence of William Hurt, age 17, Thurston Hurt, age 14, Erastus Hurt, age 13 and Mary Hurt, age 7.If Louisa is the mother of William, she must have been married at age 19, about 1843.
Chapman was born about 1815 in Virginia. His parents were probably George Spotts, Jr. and Elizabeth (Bezy) Chapman Campbell (b. Nov. 1, 1876, d. Feb. 12, 1825, m. George Dec. 5, 1803 in Wythe County, VA).
He had 2 brothers - Addison Augustus (b. Apr. 25, 1810) and Francis Preston (b. abt. 1812), and three sisters - Nannie Elizabeth, Evelyn Lee and Mary Ann Taylor.
His first wife was Mary F. Scott, married on Oct. 25, 1832 in Smyth County, VA.I don't know if they had any children.
His second wife (and my husband's ancestor) was Elizabeth "Betsy" P. Bane, m. Sep. 30, 1842 in Tazewell Co., VA.Elizabeth had previously married James P. Whitman on Jun 2, 1840 in Jeffersonville, Tazewell Co., VA.She was born on Dec. 10, 1819 in Bluestone Valley, Tazewell Co., VA, and died on Nov 28, 1856 in Richlands, Tazewell Co., VA.Her parents were Howard Bane and Letitia Hickman.Elizabeth and Chapman had 7 children.
