Hello fellow Springs researchers, I would like to share somethings about my Gt.Grandfather Marshall Elmore Springs b.7-11-1868 in Rileyville,Saline Co. Illinois.and died 12-27-1951 in williamson co.Illinois. He married Susan Elizabeth Smith b.7-7-1872 in Williamson Co.IL.and died 11-6-1940 in Williamson Co.IL. They are both buried in a little country church called Bethel Missionary Baptist Church . I have attended some church services there and the cementary can be seen out the windows. During the sermon I get a overwhelming sense of familiarity and joy. Marshall was a charter member and a deacon at this church. My mother was raised by her grandparents due to the death of her parents. It was told to me that Susan's family didn't want her to marry him because he was poor. But Mam-maw knew money wasn't the reason for marriage. There are always high praises for this godly woman and I'm glad she made her decision for Marshall as her husband. I'm sorry if I'm going on and on I'll try to stick to the facts. But sometimes I think we concentrate too much on dates and I realize sometimes that's all were left with.On Marshall's death certificate it states his father as Benjamin Springs and mother as Mary Ann Scurlock ( I do not have her parents names and I have tried my best to get their names but nothing has come up)On the 1880 Williamson Co. Census I have Springs,Benjamin age:77 Farmer b.Tenn. Father b.N.C. Wife:Mary A. age:50 b.Tenn. father b.Tenn. Children: Susan P. age:22 b.IL. father:Tenn. Thomas L. age:18 b.IL.father:Tenn. Marshall E. age:11 b.IL.father:Tenn. I have found out how to get the Bounty Land Application and I will mail out the request tomorrow ! Sincerely,Gloria Baran
