Hello Gloria! Thanks for the information on your trip to Southern Illinois. I leave August 4th to visit good old Southern Illinois.
The Doughty/Springs family of Southern Illinois has family legend that BELL is a connection with the Springs/Doughty family. I have a cousin in Southern Illinois who is in her 8o's, maiden name Doughty, married a Bell. When she married her husband with the last name of Bell, his family told her that the Doughty family was connected with the Bell family, and she was a cousin marrying a cousin. Your information was the first I have seen mentioning this connection as well.
The information on the professor with families of Crab Orchard just about covered my entire family as well. Ha! I still have found NO information on my ancestor Betsy Ann Spring/Springs. Dennis Doughty
